CELEBRITIES TO DESCEND ON ULSTER FOR GEORGE BEST GOLF INVITATIONAL JULY 2008

Today has seen the launch of the first ever George Best Golf Invitational which will take place on Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th July 2008 which will see celebrity golfers descend on Ballymena at Galgorm Castle Golf Club.

The event is organised by the George Best Foundation which was set up to provide charitable funds for research into liver disease and alcoholism as well as supporting the promotion of a healthy lifestyle among young people through participation in soccer.

The two-day event will host up to 35 celebrities from across the UK and Ireland to participate in a celebrity and amateur golf event that will be open to the general public and raise much needed funds for the George Best Foundation.

Well-known television and sporting personalities who have confirmed their interest include Snooker champions, Denis Taylor and Willie Thorne, Actors Robert Powell and from Coronation Street Alan Halsall and Trevor Dwyer-Lynch.

On Sunday 6th July - three amateur golfers will play with one celebrity over 18 holes at Galgorm Castle Golf Club in Ballymena. There will be 30 teams competing with a two tee start.

The teams will battle it out to win a series of prizes including a magnificent George Best Golf Invitational trophy which is made from the finest cut glass Tyrone Crystal.

It is anticipated that the golf event will attract in excess of 3,000 spectators province-wide to enjoy the family activities which will run throughout Sunday 6th July.

In addition to the golf spectacular,the first ever exhibition of some of George's memorabilia will be displayed including; a pair of George's Northern Ireland played football boots, his much cherished Mini Cooper 'S', the shirt which he swapped in the European Cup Final plus many more unique items which formed part of George's history.
