Company Secretary - Barbara McNarry
"I remember clearly the day that George first left Belfast. I was only 9 years old, but have vivid images of the scene at home when he left, and remember the terrible sadness. Little did I know what the following years would bring. During my teenage years, I didn't see George that often, but was very privileged to see him play on occasions at Old Trafford, and at home at Windsor Park playing for Northern Ireland. Even during my twenties, I still hadn't much contact with him. However once I reached my thirties, my husband Norman encouraged me to re-establish a relationship with George.
For that I am forever grateful. We enjoyed such a relaxed relationship. No pressure, lots of fun, over many nice meals.
His death on 25th November 2005 has devastated us all, but we are determined that his memory and legacy will live on - hence the work of the George Best Foundation. Through the foundation we will raise funds to research liver disease, in particular alcohol-related diseases. Secondly, we will work towards promoting a healthy lifestyle amongst our youth through participation in football. We would also love to encourage football amongst less able bodied children and young adults.
I would like to say a huge thank you to my late father and to the many faithful fans for their support and belief. What started as a dream has become a reality and the George Best Foundation continues to grow with the valued contributions of those who still remember George so fondly.
