Brain McCargo

Brian has been a member of Sport Northern Ireland since June 2003. He is the Chairman of the Participation Committee and serves on the Places Committee, the Appeals Committee and the Commonwealth Games Coordinating Committee. He is also a member of the U

Brian is a Department of Education representative on the Council for Catholic Maintained Schools(CCMS) and related Committees.

A retired police officer he is presently on the Board of Directors, RUC Athletic Association and serves on a variety of associated committees. Has been Chairman of the PSNI Athletic Club for 18 years and is Chairman of the PSNI  Gaelic Club. Is a former President of the RUC Rowing Club and former Chairman of  the RUC Rugby Club.

Is currently a committee member of Malone Rugby Club and also a Referee Assessor with the Ulster Branch (IRFU). Was a member of the organising committee of the very successful IRB U19 Rugby World Cup 2007(in Belfast). Presently a volunteer with Special Olympics Ireland (SOI). Has been a Board Member with SOI and Chairman Special Olympics Ulster also a member of the organising committee of the Special Olympics World Summer Games Dublin 2003 and the Special Olympics National Games Belfast 2006. Founder member of the Irish Law Enforcement Torch Run. Brain was awarded the Queens Police Medal 1999(QPM) and the Order of the British Empire (OBE) 2009.

His sporting activities include athletics, boxing, gaelic games, rugby, soccer and walking.
