George Best World First For Carryduff Colts

August 26th, 2011

The George Best Foundation sponsors its first football strip!

The George Best Foundation was delighted to sponsor the football strip for the Carryduff Colts under 15 football team when they headed off to Spain earlier this year.

Not only were they taking part in the internationally renowned Cost Dorada Cup, but were the first team from Northern Ireland to do so.

The Foundation’s secretary, Barbara McNarry, George’s sister said:

“We are delighted to support Carryduff Colts in its first ever international venture and it is entirely fitting given the vision of ourselves and the club, that it should be the first to bear the Foundation’s logo.

One of our main aims is to promote healthy living for young people through sport and increase awareness of the dangers of alcohol and drugs. I have attended awards nights at Carryduff Colts and have been impressed by the fact that they very much put children’s development at the forefront.”better homes and garden aquaponics

Eamonn Deeny, chairman of the club said:

“Before we had even started discussing sponsorship, the tournament’s website had already highlighted the fact that we were the first team to take part “from the land of George Best”.

We could never have dreamt that we would actually send a team to Spain with George’s famous signature emblazoned across our shirts.”

Not only did the shirt attract comment in Spain, but the under 15 team will continue to wear the kit during the South Belfast Youth League campaign this season.

The boys did a fantastic job in Spain, reaching the semi finals beating Spanish and English teams along the way, but sadly losing 2-0 to a team from Edinburgh.

Well done Carryduff Colts. Not only were you great ambassadors for your club and Northern Ireland, but you did your coaching staff and ultimately George’s memory proud.
